Anne Kernan

Anne Kernan’s Balls, challenges the modern compulsion to document every experience through photography. It questions whether the act of capturing a moment can ultimately overshadow the experience itself. Each ball is glazed on the inside, photographed, and then permanently sealed. The viewer is presented only with the photograph. To see the inside and truly experience the piece, the ball must be destroyed.

Crafted from textured black clay, the balls appear both earthly and otherworldly, as though they were discovered rather than made. Because the glaze remains hidden, Kernan believed it needed to be even more extraordinary than if it were visible. Over the course of a year, she tested 361 glaze combinations, selecting only 48 for the final works. The hidden vibrancy of these selected glazes raises the question, is the photograph ever truly enough? 

Kerry Baldry

Rooted in abstraction, Kerry Baldry’s paintings emerge through a process of layering and fragmentation, suggesting psychological or emotional states through shifting colours, expressive marks, and textured surfaces. Baldry’s practice is informed by the dramatic landscape of Nantlle, North Wales. This environment influences not only the visual language of her work but also its emotional and reflective depth. Through a process of layering, removing, and reworking paint, she navigates the tension between control and spontaneity. Her use of colour, texture, and expressive mark-making brings attention to the physical qualities of painting, while leaving room for unpredictability and change. In a cycle of construction and erasure, each work evolves organically, echoing the unpredictability of both the natural world and the inner self.

Anne Kernan is a London-based multidisciplinary artist, designer, and curator whose practice includes sculpture, ceramics, photography, graphics and jewellery. She is an RCA graduate, and an award winning artist.

Kerry Baldry is a filmmaker and visual artist with an extensive exhibition history. She is also the curator of the One Minute series, showcasing experimental moving image works by artists worldwide.
